Holiday Hints (for UK Guests)

Flying

Finding a cheap flight is often a gamble. For Scheduled flights, the longer away from your travel date you book, the cheaper the flight. These normally come up for sale 12 months before. The nearer to your travel date you get, they will get more expensive as they are trying to attract the business customers. Scheduled flights will offer more flexibility as they operate daily. You can also try different airports – we’ve flown into Miami - & saved enough to pay for the car hire, but you need to be OK at having a 4 ½ hour drive to & from the flight. But the service stations are situated every 40 or so miles (& I drank a lot of coffee!) so we will do this again. Tampa is about 1 ½ hours away. Connecting flights are also generally cheaper than direct flights. Try www.airline-network.co.uk or www.expedia.co.uk For Chartered flights, the reverse is true on prices. The nearer your departure, the cheaper the flight as the holiday companies need to sell seats. But it’s a gamble and not advised during the main holidays. Just remember, they may sell out! Try www.justtheflight.co.uk For both options, also try the travel agent!

Car Hire

Most of the main car hire companies are competitive in price. Please check all of the small print as full insurance is vital. We like www.holidayautos.co.uk as everything is included so there are no extra sales costs once you pick up your car. The max package is also good value. As competitive is www.airline-network.co.uk using their car hire section. Again, we recommend the premium package.

Attraction Tickets

It is worth buying your tickets in advance. The multi-day/multi-park tickets are great value, but don’t try & cram everything in to one day. Ideally, you need at least 2 days per park to see everything, unless you are there from the minute it opens to the minute it closes! Buy a guide book before you go to plan which ticket combination will suit you. For UK guests, try www.attraction-tickets-direct.co.uk Many other sites offer similar priced tickets, but this has been slightly cheaper when we’ve looked and delivery of tickets to you is excellent. If you do not intend to go to both Universal and Seaworld (& maybe Busch Gardens) and so not use the FlexTicket option, look at the Seaworld website for prices – you need to book over 7 days in advance and print the e-ticket off at home. Their 2 park multi-use ticket is exceptional value for money..

Shopping

Apart from the fact that there is lots to do at excellent value, remember that the USA clothes and shoes are different sizes to those in the UK. Click here for a conversion table.

Young Children

We first came here when our children were 6 ½, 4 ½ & 2 ½. There is more than enough to keep them occupied! We felt that our only mistake was to go to Magic Kingdom the day after we landed as our eldest was too tired to enjoy it properly. A day relaxing by the pool would have been more productive. The only other problem we encountered was squash! US fruit squash drinks are not the same as Robinsons & Ribena! These are sold at some supermarkets (particularly Publix that we use) but it is expensive – one of the only things that is!

These are only sites etc that we have found useful, you may know others that are better or these may be of help. Most of all, we hope you have a good holiday with everything going to plan!
